The Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Graduate College welcome the Drexel community to join us for our next Scholars Share: Conversations on Graduate Student Research to hear from current graduate students and postdocs about their research endeavors and a faculty moderator who will facilitate questions and discussion from the audience. About 20-30 attendees will get a $10 gift card each and the presenters/moderators will get a $35 gift card each

Social doesn't always make smart: Assessing the effect of social behavior on brain evolution in spiders

Ginny Caponera is a third-year BEES PhD candidate in the O'Donnell Lab. She is interested in the evolution of sociality and the adaptations that accompany social behavior. She studies the effect of social behavior on brain evolution using social spiders.

Flying to fieldwork: doing environmental research in a new environment

Lena Champlin studies changes in coastal water quality over time. For her thesis research, she is studying Elkhorn Slough in California, an estuary influenced by extensive agriculture which provides a large percentage of national produce including strawberries and lettuce. Lena is a third-year PhD candidate in Biodiversity, Earth and Environmental Sciences. She works with Dr. Elizabeth Watson at the Academy of Natural Sciences where she enjoys doing outreach using art and visual displays that she makes.

Investigating biofuel feedstock portfolios, seeking to minimize GHG emissions given the variation in feedstock production due to soil, management, and climate factors

Saura is Ph.D. Candidate in Environmental Engineering at CAEE Department at Drexel University. His research focuses on studying and develop statistical analysis methods in Life Cycle Assessment in the realm of Bio-energy feedstocks and nutrient recovery. In addition to Saura's current research, he has worked on agent-based modeling for chemical kinetics and microbial quantification during his undergraduate and master's research, respectively. In leisure time, Saura loves to serve with GSA and spend time with friends.
